Overview

The mountain trails of Dalhousie turn into pieces of sublime beauty during the winter season. These winter treks are at lower altitudes and shorter in distance. The snow is not thick enough to prevent trekking, but the all-white landscape is perfect for a winter trek.

The snow lasts well in March and April, so if you’d like warmer temperatures, then March is your best bet. Gather your wits and prepare yourself to hike through snow-clad mountains, narrow pathways, dense thickets – feast on the panoramic views and mind-blowing sunset and sunrise views that you will cherish for a lifetime.

We bring you the Himalayan winter treks!

Itinerary

Day 1: Explore Dalhousie

Upon reaching, there is one thing you must do- Relax! This day, you would roam around on your own. Explore the markets- Subhash Chowk and Gandhi Chowk. Around Subhash Chowk, one realizes how this hill station is built on and around the five hills.

Thick forests of pine and deodar covered the hill slopes with the trunks of the trees easily a few feet wide. Visit the St. Francis Church at Subhash Chowk. One will love the architectural beauty of the church. It’s a very old church built by the Englishmen in the early 19th century.

Walk till Gandhi chowk which is around 2 Km. Embrace each & every moment of the walk as it is full of ecstatic natural beauty. Later, around Subhash Chowk, you will get the flavor of taste -buds teasing food. If you don’t want to regret anything about your stay, then don’t miss the tea of ‘yellow scooter.’

Come back to the Home-stay and enjoy the warmth of the house

Day 2: Trek from Dalhousie to Ganji Pahadhi

Today, after breakfast, you will head towards Panchpula, one of the most popular places in the town. Panchpula means ‘five bridges’. The most popular thing about this place is the rippling streams and the gorgeous atmosphere. Later, you will start with a scenic route i.e. from Panchpula to Ganji Pahadi. Ganji Pahadi is situated in Bakrota hills and is a spectacular hike of around 5 kilometers.

A panoramic picnic spot, the place offers mesmerizing views of the surrounding snow-capped hills and valleys. Ganji Pahari can be visited in all seasons. Enjoy the bucolic life of villagers by spending your time in mud houses for a bit and have an authentic Himachal- flavored infused lunch on the quintessential chullah.

Later roam around the areas around Ganji Pahadhi. Enjoy the sky full of stars at night at the mudhouse in Ganji Pahadhi. A perfect setup to experience the Himachali winters.

Day 3: Trek from Ganji Pahadhi- Dainkund. Stay in the cottage in Dalhousie

After experiencing the beautiful morning, get ready, and have breakfast. Then you will start your trek down for Dainkund. A car will pick you up and then you will drive towards Dainkund Peak. Located near an air-force base, this peak gives you spectacular views of the Himalayas. There is a temple located here which allegedly keeps away spirits from the peak. To reach the Dainkund peak, you need to trek a bit.

However, the trek is not that difficult. A stroll in the woods will help you reach the peak. It is heavenly during the winters and one can indulge themselves in adventurous activities.
